Around 30 companies of international prestige confirm their participation in Steel Tech 2021

The first edition will be held from 19th to 21st October 2021 at BEC.

Technological advances throughout the whole value chain and promising research under way will be the main features of STEEL TECH, Congress & Expo, which will hold its first edition from 19th to 21st October 2021, organised by Bilbao Exhibition Centre and Siderex-Cluster Association of Steelworks. With more than six months to go until the event and much of its programme defined, around 30 companies of international prestige have confirmed their participation.

Divided into morning and afternoon sessions to address the major challenges in the iron and steel sector, experts with an outstanding track record will participate in the Congress. Dr. Hans-Willi Raedt, CEO of Prosimalys, will inaugurate the event with a keynote speech on current trends in steel technology for forged products. Following his presentation, representatives from leading companies, such as Urbania Construcción, Fagor Arrasate, Windar Renovables, CENIM or Tubacex will participate in the congress sessions on the first day of Steel Tech. The effects of hydrogen on steel, design guidelines for new steels for transport or steel storage will be some of the topics addressed during the first day of the congress. It will offer a strategic vision of steel solutions and uses in strategic sectors, such as construction, railway, automotive industry or energy.

At the end of each thematic block, a round table will be held to discuss the main conclusions drawn from the talks. To date, Presidents of associations and clusters such as the Basque Energy Cluster, Eraikune (Basque Construction Cluster), Mafex (Spanish Railway Association) and Sernauto (Spanish Association of Automotive Suppliers) as well as representatives of companies like Vicinay Marine Innovación and Enagas, among others, have already confirmed their participation.

The second day of the congress programme will kick off with a presentation by Carlos Alba, Global R&D-Chief Digital Officer of ArcelorMittal. IT engineer and expert in the development of Artificial Intelligence and its application in the iron and steel industry, Carlos Alba will offer a keynote speech on digitalisation and success stories in his company. Under the title of “Steel of the Future & Challenges”, the congress panel on the second day will include talks on dual digital and sustainable transition, such as smartisation, artificial intelligence, circular economy (scrap recovery, recycling, management) and cybersecurity. Representatives of companies like Idom, Danieli, Celsa Group, Sarralle, Tenova or Sidenor, among others, have already confirmed their participation on the different panels.

As on the first day, once each thematic block is completed, there will be different round tables in which experts will analyse the issues addressed in the talks throughout the day. The Presidents of Gaia (Association of Knowledge and Applied Technology Industries) and Aclima (Basque Environment Cluster), as well as the Director of the Basque Cybersecurity Centre have already confirmed their participation.

STEEL TECH will combine its congress with an exhibition and networking area, all in the same space. As part of the latter, the B2B meetings stand out, which will offer pre-arranged meetings between conference attendees, sponsoring exhibitors, purchasers and international VIPs. There will also be a programme of technical visits as well as Afterwork Drinks and a Gala Dinner.

STEEL TECH-Congress & Expo enjoys the collaboration of the SPRI Group-Basque Government and UNESID- Union of Iron and Steel Companies, and the platinum sponsorship of IDOM, gold sponsorship of Sarralle and silver sponsorship of Harsco, Tecnalia and Metalia.
